Help Keep Our Community Strong
Every donation and every fundraising events helps us to continue to support people affected by ALK-positive lung cancer
We Don't Like Asking ..........
Unlike some charities, we don't constantly ask for donations.
Our focus has always been "What can we do for you?" rather than "what can you do for us?"
Thanks to the amazing generosity of our members, families and supporters, we have been able to grow the services that we can provide for people living with ALK-positive lung cancer.
Unfortunately, the cost of delivering these services has continued to rise and our income has not kept pace.
Why We Need Your Help
Although we apply for grants wherever possible, funding is becoming increasingly difficult.
Many grant providers prioritise charities that support children, disabled people, diadvanaged people, minorities and, of course, animals. Whilst all these causes are very worthwhile, as a specialist charity supporting a relatively rare form of lung cancer, we don't meet their funding criteria.

REFUSED

This year, about 39% of our income will come from grants. However, all these grants are from paharmaceutical companies towards the cost of our annual conference but they fall well short of covering the full cost of the conference.
This shortfall and all our other costs have to be met from other sources of income, principally, fundraising and donations.
In 2026, our expenditure will exceed our income. That's not a problem as we have healthy reserves. But, this cannot continue and we are looking for ways that we can reduce expenditure.
In our recent survey, 9 out of 10 members said that they were extremely satisfied with the services provided by the charity and members can be assured that we will protect those services.

So Many Ways to Help
In our Hall of Fame, we reognise over 100 members, their families and supporters who have fundraised for the charity over the years. We are very, very grateful as, without them, we could not have achieved what we have over eight years. Please visit the Hall of Fame to see the numerous fundraising activities that have taken place - the age of particpants ranges from 6 years to 90 years.
BUT,
We know from our own surveys that many families are experiencing financial hardhip and we do not want them to feel under any obligation to donate to the charity.
Also, we know that some members are not able to take part in strenuous physical actvity, although there may be other ways that they can help.
We also appreciate that some members may support other charities.
Ways You Can Help
There are two sides to every balance sheet and, whilst we are seeking ways to reduce expenditure, we would also like to increase our income.
Perhaps the easiest way to help is to set up a monthly donation. Many members are aleady doing this and we are very grateful to them. It is easy to set up a Standing Order online with your bank or download a SO form and send it to us. Many members are also able to complete a Gift Aid form.
Several members have also invited family members to set up Standing Orders.

Vera's daughter had ALK-positive lung cancer. Vera's 90th birthday was approaching. She said that there was nothing she wanted and asked her family to donate to the charity instead of buying her presents. Several others have done the same.
Several members have made donations instead of sending Christmas Cards.
Others have asked friends and family to make a donation rather that send birthday cards.
Bernie, Ann and Jo opened their gardens to friends and neighbours, They charged an entry fee and sold cream teas.

One member arranged a dinner party for her birthday and charged her guests £25 a head. This has now become an annual event and sought after by her friends. She is now planning to enlarge it so that she can invite more people.
These are just four painless ways to fundraise and we apologise to the many fundraisers who don't feature on this page.
For all those who are able to run, walk, swim, cycle, jump out of aircraft, abseil or take part in any other organised event, the charity will pay your entry fee and provide a running vest or something similar.
For those who are working, some employers offer match-funding, payroll giving and one-hour salary donation schemes.
